Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the more frequently asked questions about our house clearance services.

How our services work

We cover most of East Anglia, offering house clearances in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridge, Peterborough and surrounding areas. If you can’t see your area please get in touch as we may still cover you or be able to point you in the direction of a trusted house clearance company in the area.

We would love to be able to give an exact figure for your house clearance. The reality is that each quotation can vary dramatically from one property to another and we don’t want to give you an unrealistic figure. Read our article around how much does a house clearance cost?

Finding out about house clearance services in is easy. You want a house clearance company with good reviews and transparent pricing. Clear A Space, offer free quotes, allowing you to understand the services and costs involved without obligation.

A standard house clearance service typically includes the removal of all unwanted items from the property, such as furniture, appliances, household goods, personal belongings, and general waste. Reputable house clearance companies like ours will also handle the loading, transportation, and responsible disposal of these items, including recycling and donating where possible.

Unfortunately not, we prefer to view a property in person so that you can be assured of an accurate “fixed priced” property clearance quotation, allowing you to budget accordingly. If this is not possible then as a minimum, we would require photos with as much information as possible about your requirements and the property to be cleared.

Yes, Clear A Space will take clothes as part of a general house clearance. These items are sorted for donation to charities or recycled if they are not in suitable condition for reuse.

We can also remove gas cans, electronic waste (WEEE), fluorescent lighting, lithium batteries, tyres and much more. If you have a specific request you are unsure of, then please contact our house clearance team.

A quotation is based on the size of a property, volume and total weight of items to be removed, access, time required to complete a clearance, if carpets are to be removed and is a deep clean required afterwards? We always submit a detailed and itemised quotation for your consideration, explaining all costs in detail.

A 50% deposit is required to confirm the booking and to secure a date for the house clearance to commence. Don’t worry, we will issue you with a complete invoice showing the deposit payment as proof of your payment. The remaining balance is due immediately after the house clearance has been completed. We accept Bank Transfer and all major Debit / Credit Cards. However, we cannot accept cheques.

No, there is no need for you or a relative / friend to be on site whilst we carry out the clearance, unless you specifically prefer to be.

We appreciate that a clearance can be a little unsettling to view for some of our clients.

Also due to Health and Safety, heavy lifting and dismantling, we prefer to keep the number of people on site to a minimum.

Yes, we do! As part of a clearance quotation, please let us know if you would like the property to be cleaned once the clearance is completed and we will be happy to advise you.

When a house clearance is needed after a death, particularly a probate house clearance, the cost is typically paid for by the estate of the deceased. The executor or administrator of the estate is responsible for managing these expenses, which are considered legitimate disbursements. This means the funds to pay for the clearance come from the assets left by the person who passed away, before the remaining inheritance is distributed to beneficiaries.

In situations where there are no funds in the estate, or if the executor or family members choose to personally arrange and pay for the clearance, they would cover the costs themselves. However, these expenses can often be reimbursed from the estate once probate is granted and funds become available. It’s always advisable for executors to keep detailed records of all expenses related to the estate, including house clearance costs for a probate house clearance.

We are not a waste removal / collection company in the normal sense, we would recommend you take these items to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre, or if the items are too large to fit in your car then you contact a “man and van” style registered waste carrier / waste disposal company.

Yes, we offer commercial clearances in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridge & Peterborough and the surrounding areas. Contact us for a quote for your commercial clearance.
